Meet Sarah Sennett, Swanky’s New Head of Agency Marketing

Say hello to our latest Swanky recruit, Sarah Sennett!

We’re delighted to have recently welcomed marketing maestro Sarah Sennett to the Swanky team! 

Sarah, who brings a wealth of digital marketing expertise and enthusiasm to her role at Swanky, will be heading up our Agency Marketing team, leading our marketing strategy across EMEA and internationally. We’re thrilled to have Sarah on board, and can’t wait for her to cook up some creative digital campaigns with the rest of our AM team!

Let’s catch up with Sarah to find out more about life before Swanky, why she’s so passionate about marketing, and what she loves doing away from her desk …

What three words would you use to describe how you feel about joining Team Swanky?

Full of excitement!

Tell us about your career path so far.

I started out as a lighting designer and event manager, but always had an interest in the digital space. I made a flash website for my Mum’s holiday business back when it was cool to do that! 

I moved into digital marketing in 2008 working for a startup, and we launched four recruitment websites for the aviation and healthcare industries. My claim to fame was to outrank Indeed for several key terms before they became the global giant they are today. 

I’ve worked in a number of digital marketing roles since then, across a whole range of digital marketing specialisms. I was a generalist in the beginning, then discovered my passion was for user experience and SEO – from both the technical and content angles. 

My most recent role was Head of Digital Marketing for a creative agency before joining team Swanky. 

Why did you decide to pursue a career in marketing?

My favourite word is ‘why’. I’ve always been interested in discovering how things work and my curiosity for knowing why things happen, why users do what they do, and why marketing works (or doesn’t) is something that keeps me interested every day.

What’s your favourite marketing channel and why?

This is a tough one, because the answer is – it depends. It depends on what I want to achieve so it’s about choosing the right tool, for the right audience, for the right job. 

What’s your recommendation for a good marketing read/podcast?

Without a doubt it’s ‘Start with Why’ by Simon Sinek. Not exclusively for marketers by any means, but a highly recommended read for everyone who works in marketing. Also giving my own podcast ‘The Marketing Mindset Club’ a shout out – I can’t claim it’s the best but I’m striving to deliver value in each episode. 

What are you most looking forward to learning about ecommerce?

I’m looking forward to learning more about consumer behaviours in ecommerce and how customers react to different touch points or marketing tactics. 

What’s the first thing you do when you start working every day?

Drink the tea… nothing works before caffeine! But once I’m up and running I like to review my task list and prioritise my workload for the day so I know what I’m aiming to achieve. 

Give us your top tips for working remotely.

Build a routine that supports your wellbeing. Don’t be tempted to stay in front of the screen after your work is done, make sure to get out for walks as often as possible and keep connected with your team throughout the day. 

What three things can you most commonly be found doing outside of work?

I love horse riding, running and sewing when I’m not in front of a screen working on the podcast.
