Founded in the 80s by two brothers who fell in love with the Cornish coast, Saltrock is a popular surf and adventure apparel company who are passionate about creating clothing that reflects their love for sun, sand and sea.

Over the last couple of decades, Saltrock’s business has dramatically expanded, with the team moving from simply selling their coastal designs to the local surfing community in Devon to providing high-quality beachwear to customers on a national scale.

When Saltrock first came to us, they were looking for a more adaptive, intuitive and flexible website that would enable them to test out new functionality quickly and easily. They were struggling with the fact that, while operating their website on a different platform, every small change they requested became an expensive and time-consuming process, with each tweak they attempted to make taking too long to be actualized on-site.

 

Saltrock simply wanted to be able to customise their website easily, measure their performance by running split tests (comparing several versions of a webpage to analyse best performance) and implement new changes quickly without the need for custom-made solutions for every update.

 

So when they heard about Shopify, with its increased functionality and customisation options, Saltrock’s interest was piqued. In the hope of providing a more user-friendly experience to customers that would help them to boost their overall conversion rate, they agreed to make the Shopify switch – and they haven’t looked back since.

 

As Shopify Plus Experts, we worked closely with Saltrock to completely remodel their original site to look better, work better and match the feel and style of the brand. We approached this design project from a CRO (conversion rate optimisation) perspective, focussing primarily on the three keys to ecommerce website design success: usability, responsiveness and aesthetic appeal. The result was a website that was attractive, easy to navigate and that worked seamlessly on every device.

In the weeks following Saltrock’s new Shopify website launch, Saltrock were delighted to find they were retaining all of their existing customer traffic, as often customers can be put off by suddenly having to become accustomed to a new website design. They also experienced absolutely no drop in their conversion rate even as their customers adapted to the store’s new layout, which Director Jon Dunne sees as “proof that our new website is very strong from a Conversion and UXD perspective”.

 

As they enter the second phase of their work with us, Saltrock are excited to continue building their ecommerce success. With a new and compelling website design now in place, they have ambitious growth plans to increase their current percentage of overall revenue that comes from ecommerce by double (from 15% to 30%).
