Case Study: Integrating Delivery & Pickup Solutions Into This Australian Florist’s Shopify Tech Stack

Bower & Bloom is an exciting new-to-market florist in Brisbane, Australia, that engaged with Swanky to support a Shopify store creation. A key focus was implementing an effective delivery and pickup tech stack to enable seamless and scalable ecommerce operations. Learn more about the process in this case study.

Bower & Bloom, a newly-established Australian florist, came to Swanky for support launching its Shopify online and POS stores. A key focus for the team was ensuring their delivery and in-store pickup systems were optimised to provide a frictionless experience for customers.

As a florist, providing a local delivery service, the brand needed precise delivery radius mapping, flexible scheduling options, and real-time delivery tracking to build and maintain a reputation for excellent service.

In this case study, we’ll explore how a user-friendly tech stack achieved this; creating a smooth customer experience (CX) and streamlining operations.

Shopify store support

Alongside tech stack implementation, Swanky helped ensure Bower & Bloom’s ecommerce site was fully functioning, both the frontend and backend. The store had a solid design framework in place, but needed the support of our Australian Shopify Experts ahead of launch.

Our team focused on:

  • installing and configuring business-critical apps;
  • optimising the store for conversions and product discovery;
  • structuring the navigation system to better illustrate key categories;
  • creating essential core pages; and
  • developing a scalable structure for product and collection management.

To support Bower & Bloom’s launch, we also implemented an initial paid advertising campaign. This targeted local customers around Valentine’s Day to help drive traffic to the new store and kickstart revenue generation.

Delivery & pickup tech stack

One of Shopify’s strengths is its ability to adapt to business needs by integrating different tech. These third-party apps enable a variety of functionality and can scale according to requirements.

In the case of Bower & Bloom, the store needed a tech stack that would enable accurate delivery mapping, flexible scheduling, and real-time tracking.

To achieve this, we implemented three key solutions:

1. Delivery scheduling with Buunto

Buunto helps retailers manage delivery and pickup scheduling with precision. The app enables businesses to set specific timeframes for both delivery and in-store collection, giving customers flexibility while maintaining operational control for retailers.

It also presents this information in a clear and intuitive way on the frontend of a Shopify store, making it easy for a customer to choose a slot that works for them at checkout. This ease of use boosts trust and reduces friction at the final stage of the customer journey.

For Bower & Bloom, Buunto allows customers to choose from a range of timeframes for delivery and in-store pickup. The app’s granular scheduling features allow them to exclude specific days, set cut-off times, and create different timeframes for various product collections. This level of control is essential for providing excellent and accurate deliveries, especially during peak periods such as Valentine’s Day.

2. Mapping delivery radiuses with Ship Sketch

Bower & Bloom has a set delivery radius that users need to understand quickly and efficiently when ordering a product.

To ensure this is clear, we integrated Ship Sketch into the brand’s Shopify tech stack to create a visual representation of the delivery radius on a map. This feature is integrated both on a dedicated delivery page and at the bottom of product detail pages (PDPs), allowing customers to instantly see if their location falls within the delivery zone without needing to enter their address.

If a customer is outside this radius they can opt to pick up in-store instead, choosing a timeframe as explained previously.

With Ship Sketch you can also set different delivery costs for different radiuses. For example, if you have two warehouses you could have different radiuses around each warehouse, with different costs associated for each zone. This flexibility in delivery pricing helps businesses optimise delivery operations based on distance and logistics.

3. Transparent communication with Detrack

Clear communication around order processing and delivery is vital in building and maintaining trust with customers post-purchase. Bower & Bloom leveraged Detrack to enable this, with real-time delivery tracking and updates being sent to customers after purchase.

Whilst there are a plethora of great apps for this function, Detrack allows Bower & Bloom to manage deliveries using their own vehicles rather than relying on third-party couriers. This gives the team complete control over the delivery experience while providing customers with accurate tracking information.

Additionally, this can scale as is needed and can accommodate anything from a single vehicle to hundreds of vehicles in a delivery fleet. Its robust setup process helps businesses adapt and grow as required, which is particularly valuable during peak periods when additional vehicles may be needed to handle increased order volume.

Results of Bower & Bloom’s store launch

The first month of business was a success for Bower & Bloom who saw orders flood in throughout February, particularly over Valentine’s Day. Shopify POS processed the majority of transactions and the online conversion rate peaked at 8% (far above the 2-3% industry average conversion rate).

Perhaps most importantly, orders were processed correctly and all logistics functioned smoothly, regardless of how an order was placed – online, in-store or over the phone. This pointed to a well-integrated tech stack that supported all areas of the business and customer journey.
