Welcome to Norway

There are few better occasions to implement a carefully-planned practical joke than at a Stag Do. However, these friends from Norway took things to the next level.

The joke, of course, is that the Stag is the only one of the friends who believes that he is about to begin a bungee jump. The fact that he is scared of heights simply adds to the amusement of the pranksters.

The Value of Consultancy

This video is a lovely little allegory underlining the value of professional and consultancy services to a business.

As the Stag stands on what he believes to be a launch platform, his fear renders him almost incapable of making the decision to jump. His mistaken belief that he is delicately balanced hundreds of feet in the air has totally dis empowered him. It is only when he hits the paddling pool that he realises how unnecessary his fears had really been.

In business, particularly the world of SMEs and start-ups, the Stag’s experiences are something that many directors can relate to. It can sometimes feel as though every decision is made whilst standing on the precipice! It is only with the benefit of hindsight that you realise that the circumstances were less make-or-break than they seemed at the time.

This is why so many businesses benefit from the input and strategic advice of consultancy firms. Lessons can be learnt preemptively, without the necessity of hindsight. This helps to take the sting out of decisions and enable the business to stimulate growth.

The same principles apply when a potential client contact us for a consultation about their web design project. The challenge of designing and developing a website which will help a business to outperform more illustrious competitors can feel overwhelming. As a web design company it is our role to break the project down into a series of manageable goals and advise the business on the best way to develop a successful website.

Here are 4 ways in which strategic input helps bring clarity and conviction in business decisions.

1. Perspective

In every decision-making process there is a danger of losing/lacking perspective. SMEs invariably benefit from an external voice which is unaffected by the daily pressures and detail of business life.

2. Experience

A primary element of the paralysis that can be associated with ‘big decisions’ is the absence of an experienced voice in the conversation. The introduction of experience helps to remove the fear of failure and empower decision-makers to come to informed and wise conclusions.

3. Skills

Whilst many SMEs have a team of well-rounded generalists, it often requires specific skills to enable sustained growth. In our situation, we’re typically commissioned to provide website design, e-commerce, SEO and website strategy services.

4. Friendship

In the world of business, friendship is a hugely underrated commodity. Knowing that there are people who care about you and have a vested interest in your success brings a freedom and clarity to decision-making.

Provided, that is, that you’re not about to get married, scared of heights and about to do a bungee jump…
